Accountant

Position Overview:


The Secretariat is seeking a dedicated and proactive Accountant to join our team during an exciting period of reform and modernization. This mid-level position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the transformation of financial systems, ensuring their alignment with best practices and modern standards. The accountant will play a critical role in overseeing financial operations, maintaining compliance, and enhancing efficiency within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:


The Accountant will undertake the following responsibilities:

  1. Prepare the Secretariat’s budget in alignment with organizational goals and strategic plans.
  2. Develop and present accurate and timely financial reports.
  3. Maintain and modernize appropriate accounting records (computerized or otherwise).
  4. Support timely collection of membership contributions.
  5. Oversee payments, ensuring they are duly authorized, documented, and aligned with budgetary provisions.
  6. Examine the monthly payroll and ensure its accuracy.
  7. Regularly prepare reconciliations, including bank account reconciliations.
  8. Provide accurate financial information and insights to the Secretary General and Director of Corporate Services.
  9. Monitor expenditures and ensure strict adherence to budgetary limits unless approved otherwise.
  10. Support the implementation of robust internal control systems.
  11. Collaborate with the Auditor by providing required records and information for audits.
  12. Assist in implementing recommendations from internal and external audits.
  13. Manage procurement activities in line with procurement regulations.
  14. Prepare and present monthly financial reports to management and quarterly budget monitoring reports for Member States.
  15. Participate in the Secretariat’s reform and modernization processes to improve financial practices and systems.
  16. Undertake additional duties as directed by the Secretary General or Director of Corporate Services.

 

 

Qualifications and Skills:


Essential:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field with at least 3 years of experience in accounting services.
  2. Chartered or certified accountant qualification.
  3. Strong project and program management skills.
  4. Proven ability to work effectively both independently and in a team setting.
  5. Excellent analytical and report-writing skills.
  6. High proficiency in English (written and verbal).
  7. Advanced computer skills, including accounting software.
  8. Attention to detail and ability to adhere to deadlines.
  9. Valid passport and willingness to travel internationally as required.

     

Desirable:

  1. Experience coordinating teams or staff.
  2. Familiarity with multicultural work environments.
  3. Demonstrated ability to support organizational reform and modernization.

 

Salary Range:


MUR 27,400 – MUR 62,700 (incremental scale).
