Accountant
Position Overview:
The Secretariat is seeking a dedicated and proactive Accountant to join our team during an exciting period of reform and modernization. This mid-level position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the transformation of financial systems, ensuring their alignment with best practices and modern standards. The accountant will play a critical role in overseeing financial operations, maintaining compliance, and enhancing efficiency within the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
The Accountant will undertake the following responsibilities:
- Prepare the Secretariat’s budget in alignment with organizational goals and strategic plans.
- Develop and present accurate and timely financial reports.
- Maintain and modernize appropriate accounting records (computerized or otherwise).
- Support timely collection of membership contributions.
- Oversee payments, ensuring they are duly authorized, documented, and aligned with budgetary provisions.
- Examine the monthly payroll and ensure its accuracy.
- Regularly prepare reconciliations, including bank account reconciliations.
- Provide accurate financial information and insights to the Secretary General and Director of Corporate Services.
- Monitor expenditures and ensure strict adherence to budgetary limits unless approved otherwise.
- Support the implementation of robust internal control systems.
- Collaborate with the Auditor by providing required records and information for audits.
- Assist in implementing recommendations from internal and external audits.
- Manage procurement activities in line with procurement regulations.
- Prepare and present monthly financial reports to management and quarterly budget monitoring reports for Member States.
- Participate in the Secretariat’s reform and modernization processes to improve financial practices and systems.
- Undertake additional duties as directed by the Secretary General or Director of Corporate Services.
Qualifications and Skills:
Essential:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field with at least 3 years of experience in accounting services.
- Chartered or certified accountant qualification.
- Strong project and program management skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively both independently and in a team setting.
- Excellent analytical and report-writing skills.
- High proficiency in English (written and verbal).
- Advanced computer skills, including accounting software.
- Attention to detail and ability to adhere to deadlines.
Valid passport and willingness to travel internationally as required.
Desirable:
- Experience coordinating teams or staff.
- Familiarity with multicultural work environments.
- Demonstrated ability to support organizational reform and modernization.
Salary Range:
MUR 27,400 – MUR 62,700 (incremental scale).
