IORA participated in the 8th Indian Ocean Dialogue (IOD), held virtually on 15 December 2021. Organized by India, the dialogue centered on the theme 'Post Pandemic Indian Ocean: Leveraging Digital Technologies for Health, Education, Development and Trade in IORA Member States'.
IORA's engagement in this high-level dialogue provided a crucial intergovernmental perspective on post-pandemic resilience. Discussions revolved around four key pillars: utilizing e-health to combat Covid-19, investing in e-education, fostering development through digital technologies, and advancing digital shipping, smart ports, and trade. These themes are intrinsically linked to building resilient societies capable of withstanding complex crises, including pandemics and natural disasters.
The outcome was a substantive Dialogue Report. IORA's participation ensured that discussions on digital transformation were grounded in the practical needs and cooperative frameworks of the region. This engagement highlighted how digital infrastructure and innovation are critical cross-cutting tools for disaster risk management, economic recovery, and sustainable development, reinforcing IORA's holistic approach to regional resilience.
