Directorates
The Directorates at the IORA Secretariat support the implementation of the Association’s work by providing technical, administrative, and substantive coordination across priority areas and cross-cutting issues. They assist in facilitating Working Group activities, ensuring coherence and continuity in programme delivery. The Directorates also assist the Secretary-General in advancing mandated decisions of Council Meetings, strengthening institutional coordination, and enhancing the overall effectiveness of the organisation’s work.
The Maritime Safety and Security (MSS) and Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Directorate coordinates capacity-building activities related to maritime safety and security and disaster risk management.
The Directorate assists the Working Group Chair and Coordinating Country of MSS and DRM for review and implementation of the respective Work Plan.
The Directorate of Trade and Investment Facilitation at the IORA Secretariat coordinates capacity-building initiatives aimed at improving trade facilitation, investment promotion frameworks, and regulatory cooperation.
The Directorate assists the Working Group Chair and Coordinating Country of TIF for review and implementation of the respective Work Plan.
The Blue Economy (BE) and Fisheries Management (FM) Directorate facilitates knowledge-sharing and capacity-building initiatives to strengthen fisheries governance, combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, enhance food security and livelihoods, marine conservation, and the development of blue economy sectors, including aquaculture, marine biotechnology, and ocean-based renewable energy.
The Directorate assists the Working Group Chair and Coordinating Country of FM and BE for review and implementation of the respective Work Plan.
The Directorate for Academic, Science and Technology Cooperation, Tourism and Cultural Exchanges, and Women’s Economic Empowerment assists in strengthening people-to-people connectivity, collaboration in research, innovation, and knowledge-sharing, while facilitating initiatives that enhance sustainable tourism and foster cultural understanding within the region. The Directorate also advances gender equality by supporting programmes and policy dialogue aimed at empowering women economically.
Coordinating with IORA Chair and assisting for Council Meetings. Monitoring and implementing CSO and COM decisions to ensure the timely implementation of the outcomes of Council meetings (CSO and COM).
Strengthening cooperation with Dialogue Partners and international and regional organizations that share common interests.
Public Diplomacy and Communication Unit is responsible for enhancing the visibility of IORA through quarterly enewsletter, press release, social media and website.
