The Fifth Meeting of the IORA Maritime Safety and Security (MSS) Working Group was conducted virtually on 2nd May 2025, under the continued leadership of Australia and India.
The central objective was to conduct a strategic review of the Working Group's activities under the current multi-year plan. Member States assessed progress, discussed emerging challenges, and agreed on necessary revisions to the workplan to ensure it remained responsive, effective, and aligned with the collective priorities of IORA.
The meeting produced a Decision Report containing the latest revised workplan. This outcome demonstrates the Working Group's dynamic and iterative approach to regional security cooperation. By consistently reviewing and updating its roadmap, the group maintains its relevance and effectiveness, ensuring that IORA's collective efforts in Maritime Safety and Security are focused, coordinated, and capable of addressing the evolving security landscape of the Indian Ocean.
