Search and Rescue Exercise (SAREX) 24 was conducted from 27 to 30 November 2024 in Kochi, India. Hosted by the Indian Coast Guard under the theme 'Enhancing Search and Rescue capabilities through regional collaboration,' this exercise showcased India's commitment to providing assistance during large-scale contingencies in its vast Search and Rescue region.

The event featured realistic SAR scenarios, coordination drills between multiple national and international agencies, and demonstrations of advanced lifesaving equipment and techniques.

SAREX 24 provided IORA with practical insights into the complexities of multinational SAR operations. It highlighted the critical importance of standardized procedures, interoperable communications, and pre-established coordination frameworks—all key elements that IORA promotes through its MSS Working Group. This observation informed IORA's ongoing efforts to strengthen regional SAR cooperation and capacity building.
