The Conference on the Political Economy of Maritime Africa in the Indian Ocean, held from 12-14 March 2014 in Nairobi, Kenya, provided a crucial platform for scholarly and policy-oriented discourse on Africa's role and linkages within the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). Organized by the Indian Ocean Research Group (IORG), the event aimed to deepen understanding of the region's complex maritime dynamics through three core sub-themes: Africa’s Perception of and Linkages with Indian Ocean States; Africa and the Indian Ocean Region; and the Future Potential for Regional Cooperation.

The main outcome was a comprehensive Conference Report that synthesized the deliberations and provided analytical insights.
