The Meeting of Indian Ocean Rim Climate Change Adaptation Officials was convened from 1 to 3 April 2014 in Chennai, India. Co-organized by Australia and India, this expert meeting focused on improving regional capacity and cooperation to address the impacts of climate change, a key driver of disaster risk in the IORA region.
The meeting assembled climate change adaptation officials and experts from IORA member states. Its primary objective was to work collectively towards a shared understanding of climate change impacts specific to the Indian Ocean region. Through information sharing, participants improved their knowledge of adaptation strategies and best practices, enabling them to assess current national approaches and develop new, context-specific strategies.
The key outcome was a Meeting Report. Beyond the immediate knowledge exchange, the event successfully established ongoing professional networks for further collaboration. This meeting was highly relevant to IORA's DRM priority, as it built the foundational knowledge and connections necessary for developing cross-sectoral, regional responses to climate-induced disasters, thereby enhancing long-term resilience across member states.
