The ‘Professional Short Course on Renewable Energy Transition - Indian Ocean Region' was delivered virtually by the Australian National University (ANU) for IORA Member States from 1 July-8 August 2025. This course was funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. IORA Member States, namely Bangladesh, India, Kenya, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mauritius, Oman, Seychelles, Somalia, and Tanzania, participated in the course. Forty-three selected professionals from Government, Civil society, or industry, working in climate change adaptation and mitigation, participated in the course.

The course was designed to support informed decision-making on renewable energy issues throughout the Indian Ocean region. Participants developed a deeper understanding of the key policy, technological, and economic approaches supporting the transition to a zero-emissions energy system, and how the simultaneous drivers of energy access, energy security and energy productivity will shape the transition.

This course is aligned with IORA’s commitment to addressing climate change, following the adoption of its Climate Change Strategic Agenda in May 2025. The Agenda aims to deliver impactful regional cooperation between IORA Member States and its partners by leveraging IORA’s strengths to implement well-targeted and coordinated activities to address climate change.

The ‘Professional Short Course on Renewable Energy Transition - Indian Ocean Region’ is building capacity and knowledge of IORA Member States to address climate change impacts.
