Second Meeting of the IORA Maritime Safety and Security Working Group
18 March - 19 March 2021   |   Events

The Second Meeting of the IORA Maritime Safety and Security (MSS) Working Group was held virtually on 18-19 March 2021, under the continued chairmanship of Sri Lanka. This meeting was crucial for maintaining momentum in regional cooperation during the global pandemic.

The primary focus was to review progress and plan for the future. Member States conducted a thorough assessment of activities from the first Work Plan (2019-2021) and deliberated on future priorities. The key outcome was the finalization of the Second Work Plan for the period 2022–2026. This new plan incorporated unconcluded activities from the previous cycle and introduced fresh initiatives to address evolving maritime security challenges.

The successful virtual convening and adoption of the 2022-2026 Work Plan demonstrated the resilience and commitment of IORA Member States to collective maritime security. The meeting ensured continuity and strategic direction for the Working Group, providing a clear five-year roadmap for collaborative projects, capacity building, and policy coordination, thereby solidifying the MSS Working Group as the central engine for IORA's maritime security agenda.
