Training on International Arbitration for Legal Practitioners and Business Operators

As a form of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), arbitration is a fundamental concept in the legal landscape, particularly in issues relating to international commercial disputes and transactions. With globalization nurturing in an integrated global sphere, international arbitration is increasingly used to solve legal challenges across borders.

 

In this context, the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) through its MCCI Arbitration & Mediation Centre (MARC) and in association with the IORA Secretariat, White & Case LLP and the Mumbai Centre for International Arbitration, arranged training on International Arbitration for Legal Practitioners and Business Operators between 10-14 February 2020. The training was hosted by White & Case LLP at their offices in Sandton, Johannesburg, South Africa. This training aimed at offering insights, sharing perspectives and providing a comprehensive overview of international arbitration with legal and business communities based in the region. 

 

The programme covered the following topics:

  • Day 1: Mastering the Basics of Arbitration for the Business Community
  • Day 2: Conducting Efficient International Arbitration Proceedings
  • Day 3: Arbitrating Against State Owned Entities
  • Day 4: Arbitrating Maritime Trade Disputes in the IORA Region
  • Day 5: Investment Arbitration in the IORA Region.

The sessions were delivered by international arbitrators, academics and experts on the field of international arbitration.
