Workshop on Disaster Mitigation & Management - Tropical Cyclones held in India
16 March - 17 March 2005   |   Events

The Workshop on Disaster Mitigation & Management, with a focus on Tropical Cyclones, was held on 16-17 March 2005 in Gurgaon, India. Organized by the Government of India, this early IORA initiative was a direct response to the devastating 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. The workshop aimed to share experiences on cooperative disaster management initiatives and to suggest concrete improvements in identified problem areas.

The event convened disaster management officials and experts from IORA Member States to discuss the specific challenges posed by tropical cyclones in the region. Key themes included early warning systems, community preparedness, evacuation planning, and post-disaster recovery.

The main outcome was a Workshop Report that captured the discussions and recommendations.
