International Workshop on ‘Role of Women in Science, Technology and Innovation in the Global South', 17-18 April 2025

The Secretariat participated on the second day of the Women in Science workshop jointly hosted by the Mauritian Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science and Research (MoTESR) and the Science and Technology Centre for Non-aligned and other Developing Countries (NAM S&T), New Delhi, India, at the Royal Green, Mauritius.

 

The Opening remarks were delivered by Prof Kiran Bhujun (MoTESR), followed by Dr Amitava Bandopadhyay (the Director General: NAM S&T Center), while the guest of honour was the Minister of Tertiary Education, Science and Research, Dr Kaviraj Sukon. 

 

Topics covered during the second day included: Gender gaps in Research and Development; Promoting the Participation of Women Scientists and Researchers in Blue and Green Research and Innovation in Mauritius, and Unveiling the Silent Struggle: The impact of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) Awareness Deficiency on Women’s Health. 

 

Women scientists, researchers, educators, and students; government officials, policymakers, and representatives of international organizations and NGOs and industry from the following NAM and other developing countries participated in the event: Egypt, India, Kenya, Malaysia, Mauritius, Nepal, Palestine, and South Africa.
