The Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) marked its 28th anniversary with the commemoration of IORA Day 2025 at the Caudan Arts Centre, Port Louis, Mauritius. The event brought together esteemed dignitaries and stakeholders to celebrate the organization’s progress.

The ceremony was graced by Honourable Hambyrajen Narsinghen, Junior Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade of the Republic of Mauritius, alongside members of the diplomatic corps. The keynote address was delivered by H.E. Sanjiv Ranjan, Secretary-General of IORA, who underscored the organization's remarkable growth and increasing global recognition.

“What started as a modest initiative with just seven founding Member States has today grown into a robust regional organization with 23 Member States from across the Indian Ocean region, 12 Dialogue Partners from across the world, 2 Specialised Agencies, and 2 Observers,” stated H.E. Ranjan. “The adherence of ever larger numbers of dialogue partners and external partners is but a reflection of the increasing recognition of IORA’s role in fostering regional economic cooperation and security.”

The Secretary-General further emphasized IORA’s dedication to strengthening regional collaboration, inclusivity, and economic cooperation. He highlighted that the organization’s collaborative efforts extend beyond member states to encompass several regional and multilateral organizations, ensuring a comprehensive approach to addressing common challenges.

As IORA celebrates its 28-year journey, the event reaffirmed the organization's commitment to enhancing economic integration and promoting sustainable development within the Indian Ocean region.
